Shell exec sees biofuel potential.(News)

Current biofuels are merely a waystation on the road to lower CO2 emissions, says Rob Routs, Royal Dutch Shell board member and executive director oil products and chemicals.

But second-generation biofuels, which unlike current products can be based on agricultural waste or wood chips, will make a much more substantial contribution to lowering vehicle CO2 emissions. These new fuels "will have the potential to emit as much as 90 percent less CO2" than current biofuels, Routs said.
