A great author died last month. Anyone who appreciates good journalism mourns our loss.
My connection with David Halberstam began almost 30 years ago. On a trip to Europe, I had devoured his book about media families, The Powers That Be.
The day after I arrived home, the phone rang. It was Halberstam asking if I might be available for lunch. He was thinking about writing a book about American industry.
