Fiat Group Automobiles has lured Lorenzo Ramaciotti out of retirement by making him one of the world's most powerful styling bosses.

Starting June 1 the former Pininfarina chief designer will oversee design at six brands: Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Fiat light commercial vehicles, Lancia and Maserati.

Fiat group CEO Sergio Marchionne created the position for Ramaciotti, 59, who spent 32 years at the renowned Italian design house before retiring on June 30, 2005.
