Fiat wants its new 500 to set a higher standard for minicar safety.

Five stars is the top score given by independent car-testing organization EuroNCAP.

Fiat is confident the 500 will earn five stars - making it the safest minicar in Europe - and plans to have the car tested again once Euro-NCAP has set guidelines for a six-star rating.

The new guidelines are due within a year.
