FL Approves Telecom Law TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Florida lawmakers on the last day of the legislative session passed an innovative package of regulatory measures to replace the state's existing telecommunications law, due to sunset this year. The legislation includes strict ground rules for telephone company entry into the cable TV business, and a host of consumer and competitive safeguards.
"The legislature has provided important parameters within which telephone companies can provide competitive services, restrictions that will ensure telephone ratepayers are not being asked to subsidize these risky competitive ventures," said Steve Wilkerson, president of the Florida Cable Television Association (FCTA).
