PBS, TDC Study Merits Of Educational Network DALLAS -- PBS and The Discovery Channel are initiating a 90-day feasibility study on whether to become partners in an advertiser-supported educational cable network. PBS powerhouses WNET New York and WGBH-TV Boston, which produce more than half of the PBS national programming schedule, are the primary partners in the proposed venture with TDC.

Once rivals fighting for eyeballs in the same demographic, both PBS and TDC could benefit from such a partnership. PBS is hoping to use TDC's operator ties -- Tele-Communications Inc., United Cable Television Corp., Cox Cable Communications and Newhouse Broadcasting all own a stake in TDC -- and closer ties with public broadcasters to improve TDC's access to PBS'...
