Pac Bell To Sell Its Cable Plant PALO ALTO, CA -- One of the first telephone companies to get involved in cable may now become one of the first to depart. Pacific Bell has signed a letter of understanding with the Cable Cooperative of Palo Alto under which the utility would sell back to the cable company the physical plant constructed by Pac Bell.

The terms were not disclosed. The co-op was the successful bidder for the franchise in 1985 with a controversial proposal that the utility build the 465-mile, 550 MHz broadband plant and lease it back, over a period of 15 years (though 2000) to the locally owned cable operator.
