Bleier's PPV Rule of Thumb: Keep it Simple WASHINGTON - Ed Bleier, president of a Warner Bros.'s television unit, offered cable operators a few words of advice on how to run a successful PPV business: don't deliver "chop suey" to your customers. Instead of offering cable customers a long menu of movies, cable operators would be better off with one or two popular movies for the week.

That way subscribers can avoid confusion and easily order up what's on tap. Bleier recommended that systems: offer no fewer than two PPV channels, preferably three or four, plus a euebarker channel; run the channels like a "multiplex theater," with each channel featuring one movie, which runs every couple of hours; provide a "modicum" of promotion; and have customers...
