Despite War Drums, Capitol Hill Eyes Cable Re-Reg WASHINGTON -- Even though the Persian Gulf crisis has taken center stage on Capitol Hill, lawmakers in both chambers are quietly putting together proposals to rein in the power of the cable industry, while keeping a watchful eye on the FCC's rate-regulation activities.
No cable bills had been offered as of last Tuesday, but Washington observers expect a flurry of bills to be introduced over the next couple of months. Eventually, the mound will be whittled down to a couple of serious contenders for congressional consideration.
