Cities Urge Congress To Crack Down on Cable WASHINGTON -- An early indication of municipal officials' strategy this year for securing more authority over local cable systems emerged last week in a letter to lawmakers signed by more than 600 mayors, city and county officials. Sent to all 535 members of Congress, the letter urged lawmakers to embrace a five-point legislative plan to rein in the cable industry's power.
