TCI Installers Vote to Strike In Bay Area SAN FRANCISCO - A strike authorization vote has been taken by union members at four Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) systems in the San Francisco Bay area. No date for a walk-out has been set, however. Bargaining sessions are on hold while a mediator is brought into the dispute.

The vote was taken in May by the 118 installers and clerical workers at the systems, who approved a strikee by a 4-to-1 ratio, according to their representatives at the Communications Workers of America. At issue are rising health care costs and pensions. According to Carole Sheahan, chief negotiator for the union, TCI is shifting more of the financial burden of health insurance onto the workers.
