Operators Wary of Adding ESPN II to Lineups ESPN is checking the pulse of its affiliates to see if launch funds, increased ad avails or other "incentives" will help launch its proposed new sports news and niche sports events network. ESPN executives refused to discuss the matter, other than to say that all talks with operators are still in the "informal" stage.

And while many operators were willing to detail their discussions with the network, few were willing to be identified, saying they feared contract negotiation reprisals.
