ESPN Ups Ratings With College Grid NEW YORK - ESPN enjoyed a record audience for its Sept. 12 college football game between the University of Miami and the University of Houston as 3.82 million homes tuned in, the network said, quoting Nielsen Media Research figures. The household delivery eclipsed ESPN's old record for a college football game - 3.7 million homes for a Notre Dame-Penn State contest a year ago.

The Miami game earned a 6.5 rating in ESPN homes, matching the network's regular-season college football record and second only to the 1989 Gator Bowl which drew a 6.6.
