Dial-A-Deal After responding to a radio ad, a Multichannel News reporter fielded calls over three months from different American Microtel Inc. salesmen, all touting phenomenal returns on investments in rural wireless cable systems. Each of the three salesmen was told that he was talking to a newspaper editor, and two of them that the editor worked for a cable trade publication.

Each salesman delivered a similar pitch. Microtel was assembling a group of 66 investors to make applications for a wireless cable license in a rural area where penetration would be high because of limited competition from conventional cable and broadcasters.
