Cox, Multimedia Win Okla. Referenda Despite election-eve lobbying by union members employed by Southwestern Bell, Cox Cable Communications and Multimedia Cabledivision won separate public elections last week that will lengthen their franchises in Oklahoma City and Norman, Okla., respectively.

Both cable companies sought the security of new agreements prior to undertaking extensive fiber rebuilds. Cox, with seven years left on its current agreement, was seeking a new 20-year term; Multimedia, which had entered the 36-month renewal window, emerged with a new 15-year contract. Both companies enjoy good relations with their franchise authorities, who approved the agreements before they were submitted to voters, according to officials in Oklahoma City...
