ESPN, Discovery again lead Beta survey. (Entertainment and Sports Programming Network and The Discovery Channel lead in survey by Beta Research Corp. to find the channels worth most to cable subscribers)

ESPN is worth the most to basic cable subscribers, according to a Beta Research survey in which consumers were asked to assign an a la carte dollar value to 21 basic networks. According to the survey, which was conducted last fall, subscribers tabbed ESPN as worth $2.91 a month. Last year's leader, The Discovery Channel, slipped to second place at $2.55, with Cable News Network and sister service Headline News moving up to third place at $2.15.

The top five were rounded out by Arts & Entertainment Network at $2.04 and The Family Channel and Nickelodeon tied for fifth place with a perceived value of $1.85.
