An offer by Tele-Communications Inc. to help buy the ailing Seattle Mariners was rejected by the Japanese investor group chasing the baseball team. TCI -- which owns systems serving half of Seattle plus much of the surrounding area -- told the group that it would put in $12.6 million to acquire 10.1 percent of the team.

TCI's offer would have reduced the participation of Japan's Nintendo Corp., making the video game manufacturer a minority holder rather than the majority investor as is currently planned. TCI officials said they had no interest in operating the team, ...
