The selection of a transmission standard for high-definition television lost a bit of steam last week, even as one major player dropped out and another demonstrated that its system works. The standard selection will be delayed about five months, with a recommendation expected in February of 1993, officials working with the Federal Communications Commission said.
The announcement came last Tuesday at a meeting of the FCC's Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service, a 40-member panel that includes experts from the cable, broadcasting and satellite industries as well as government officials.
