Western Comm. kills KRON feed over cable story. (Western Communications; KRON, San Francisco, California's three-part series criticizing Bay Area cable systems)

Western Communications severed its CNN Local Edition partnership with sister company KRON-TV Los Angelas in the wake of a three-part November series by the station that was critical of Bay Area cable systems and the industry in general. Both Western and KRON are both owned by Chronicle Publishing Co.
Several other cable systems that carry the KRON feed briefly threatened to cut off their contracts; Western sent KRON a letter last December outlining its intention not to renew. Other operators quickly backed off these threats, and Chronicle sources also predicted that relations between Western and KRON would be mended.
