Can automobiles shift digital radio into overdrive?

The Federal Communications Commission has approved allocating spectrum for broadcast of digital audio, a first step toward putting competitors into the digital music market now limited to cable delivery. But digital music vendors say that technical problems with satellite delivery of digital to homes and cars will delay the competition for five to 10 years.
At least one vendor, Digital Cable Radio, said it will act during that development time to develop an alternative delivery method to reach cars, perhaps as early as the end of 1994. Digital audio broadcasting (DAB) will probably be delayed because conventional radio stations oppose it, as do some members of the FCC, who predict its development will result in an end to localism in broadcasting.
