Frankfort, Ky. system doesn't relish its MTV. (Kentucky-based Community Cable Service to discontinue contract with MTV Networks Inc.)

A municipally owned cable system in Frankfort, Ky., is considering dropping MTV: Music Television over both the channel's content and rate policy. A community citizens advisory committee was scheduled to meet last Thursday afternoon -- at press time -- to generate recommendations on whether or not the network should be removed from Community Cable Service.

"The pressure is on them; there's a whole lot of hell-raising going on about this," said Howard Norrell, former president of Frankfort's Consolidated TV Cable Service Inc., which was sold to Community this year. The controversy centers around two issues, said Tom Latek, chairman of the advisory committee: MTV's negative image among a vocal sector of the city, and what it considers MTV Networks'...
