Ohio op objects to ESPN arm-twisting. (cable operator Massillon Cable Television; Entertainment and Sports Programming Network)

Ohio cable operator Massillon Cable Television last week asserted that it was coerced into signing a one-year affiliation agreement when ESPN threatened to terminate its service within a half-hour. In keeping with company policy of not discussing contract negotiations, ESPN executives declined to comment on the matter.

However, the network did issue a one-page statement addressing some of Massillon's claims. ESPN said contract negotiations with the operator had been going on for a year and that ESPN had permitted Massillon to carry the service without a contract.
