CANNES, France -- Expansion of new networks in Europe, Asia and Latin America was the topic of much discussion here last week at the MIP-TV program market -- as was talk of a wide range of co-production opportunities. Overall, MIP got high marks for its productivity, steady sales business and the broad range of discussions that took place.

Attendance was up from last year, from 8,765 to 8,971 -- with 103 countries represented. Discovery Communications Inc., which exhibited at MIP for the first time this year, had a particularly strong presence at the market among U.S. cable networks, with some 35 representatives attending.
