Tele-Communications Inc. COO Brendan Clouston hinted broadly on May 14 that the MSO would enter into joint ventures with tele-communications companies, perhaps first in the area of personal communications services. Clouston made his comments three days before U S West Inc. announced its proposed $2.5 billion investment in Time Warner Entertainment Co.
Asked whether TCI or a group of cable operators alone could step up to the "10-figure" cost he estimated it will take to start a national PCS network, Clouston told more than 200 cable and telephone industry executives attending the Multichannel CommPerspectives' Convergence '93 conference in Denver that "the model of the cable industry doing anything alone, without the telephone industry or the computer...
