CBN: '700 Club' trademark no laughing matter. (CBN Cable Network's trademark infringement suit against Comedy Central)

The Christian Broadcasting Network Inc. doesn't think everything at Comedy Central is so funny. CBN, which airs The 700 Club, is charging Comedy Central with trademark infringement over that network's The 800 Club pilot. CBN filed a trademark infringement suit last week in state circuit court in Norfolk, Va., said Gene Kapp, director of media relations for the network.

"We sent a cease and desist letter to Comedy Central last week asking them to immediately stop using The 800 Club as part of their new program," Kapp said. "We contend that Comedy Central is using The 800 Club with the intent of trading on CBN's trademark and goodwill." CBN's The 700 Club, a daily Christian news magazine, appears on The Family Channel and 300 independent stations...
