SAN FRANCISCO -- Executives from Tele-Communications Inc. and Paramount Pictures clashed at the National Show here last week over TCI's plan to air Carolco Pictures films in a pre-theatrical window.
At the same session, TCI executive officer Fred Vierra gave the first glimpse into results of TCI's Viewer Controlled Television, saying buy-rates were five times higher for both the near video-on-demand and the video-on-demand tests than is normal for pay-per-view.
On the Carolco plan, Robert Klingensmith, president of Paramount's Video Division, blasted the idea of establishing a one- or two-showing PPV window prior to movies' theatrical exhibition saying that would hurt the studios' ability to market films at the box office.
