A new generation of network management computer software and hardware will bring a massive cultural change to the cable industry, MSOs and network support vendors say. Already, a fleet of vendors, some unfamiliar to cable, has begun to jockey for position in a brand-new management information system market -- a market requiring management of data representing billions of individual transactions.
CableData and First Data Corp.'s Cable Services Group (CSG) are already sharing the field with Electronic Data Services, ISD and other former cable outsiders. CableData and CSG readily admit that their days as sole MIS providers are already giving way to partnerships with a growing host of third parties, including cable outsiders like Qualcomm and Bull Worldwide...
