Interconnects test advertising insertion gear.

Regional cable interconnects in Albany, N.Y., and Atlanta will begin new off-line tests of Digital Equipment Corp.'s digital ad insertion system this week. Later this month, Time Warner Cable in Milwaukee will take delivery on Channelmatic Corp.'s Adcart/D system. But so far, no one standard appears destined to dominate the ad insertion application any time soon.

DEC's system employs a turbocharged version of the JPEG computer data-compression standard. Two other vendors, Channelmatic and StarNet, employ MPEG-1 compression.
