Three firms merge U.K. systems. (Jones Intercable Inc.; Bell Canada International Inc.; Cable and Wireless PLC)

Jones Intercable Inc., Bell Canada International and Cable & Wireless plc joined hands in the United Kingdom last week to simultaneously advance two British cable trends: They announced a consolidation of their systems and a plan to float the merged entity on the stock market. If all the three companies' cable and associated telephone holdings are amalgamated -- a matter yet to be finalized-the group would have an equity share in the equivalent of about 2.1 million households under franchise.

The company will be second only to Nynex CableComms Ltd. and TeleWest Communications Group when ranked according to total households (just under 3 million). The stock offering for the new company, to be called BCETI Cable Ltd., is expected to be the largest to hit...
