Rather than change its 40-year-old stripes as a manufacturer for the telephone industry, Northern Telecom has created a Broadband Networks business unit to serve what it sees as an altogether new and critical broadband market, with cable operators leading the charge. "The convergence of entertainment and communications and computing will create a new business, and rather than twist our old, established operations, we've put together a new one," said Stephen Fleming, vice president of global marketing for the division.
