HDTV standard could be here by end of '95. (high-definition television)

Results of a summer-long field trial of vestigial sideband modulation technology for future high-definition television signals received a satisfied nod from the FCC Advisory Committee, paving the way for more tests next year and a possible HDTV standard as early as next Christmas. "The field test results show that the digital HDTV transmission technology proposed by the Grand Alliance performs well in real-world conditions," said Richard Wiley, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission's Advisory Committee on advanced television, in a statement.
