Infomercial co. strikes deal with Time Warner. (Guthy-Renker Corp.; Time Warner Cable)

New York - Bypassing intermediaries, Guthy-Renker Corp., a major infomercial producer/distributor last week revealed that it struck a three-year agreement with Time Warner Cable to deliver via satellite its infomercials to 8 million homes.
Although major marketing and media companies like Fingerhut Companies Inc, Time Warner Inc. and QVC Inc. have been unable to launch new home shopping channels because of a shortage of cable channel capacity, cable systems are now filling vacant schedule holes with infomercials.
New York-based Guthy-Renker is copying the business arrangements with cable operators established by Access Television Network, based in Irvine, Calif. Access, which launched a year ago with 600,000 homes, now reaches 11 million cable...
