PASADENA, CALIF. - Programmers are expanding their use of online and other electronic consumer contacts in order to develop marketing lists for the future. Most businesses are developing web sites and other online services for consumers to visit, but newer ventures are attempting to get the consumer to identify themselves so they can contact computer and fax users later with unsolicited material.

Cable networks outlined some of their online ventures at last week's Television Critics Association forum. Lifetime Television is sending interactive personal computer disks to consumers, cable MSOs and advertisers. The floppy, usable on 386 or better IBM-compatible computers with color video monitors and sound cards, contains clips of original programming...
