Microsoft Corp. pursues broadcast PC model.

Microsoft Corp. is tracking a "broadcast PC" strategy to deliver multimedia content to home computers via direct-broadcast satellite, calling it an interim way to make money before interactive TV applications start to take hold. Specifically, Microsoft wants to combine broadcast television - most likely from its recent content deal with NBC Telivision - with data to create an enhanced broadcast offering.
The company could thn serve up the "broadcast-enhanced" package via a satellite-delivered variation of The Microsoft Network (MSN). That means customers who ultimately buy the entertainment personal computer package and subscribe to a direct-to-home video-data service could point and click on various picture elements to view statistical data.
