Microsoft, TCI to expand Seattle trial. (Microsoft Corp.; Tele-Communications Inc.)

Microsoft Corp. and Tele-Communications Inc. are moving closer to expanding the focus of their planned Seattle-area interactive trial to include high-speed data applications using cable modems. The tests will likely occur later this year next year, as a staggered approach to Microsoft's planned interactive TV system, "MITV," is scheduled to take off in 1997.

Earlier this month, TCI executives denied word of conflict between the MSO and Microsoft, saying that if anything, the two companies would widen their plans.
