While the new Cable News Network Financial News will not unseat the entrenched CNBC, some cable operators said there is room for another business news channel. Nor will CNNfn, which will launch Dec. 29, be the last new financial channel to enter the field. Dow Jones & Co., in a venture with ITT Corp., plans to relaunch New York city station WNYC-TV -- to be rechristened WBIS -- as a business news/sports hybrid channel next year.
In addition, Bloomberg Business News is lurking around the corner. Bloomberg has a morning business news program on USA Network and a business news channel on direct-broadcast satellite service DirecTv. But Bloomberg has announced no plans to gain cable carriage.
