SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - The year-old Australian pay TV industry entered a new phase last week as service providers added new tiers of programming and Optus Vision started marketing telephony over its broadband cable network. Cable subscribers can now pay up to $A56.85 ($US45) a month for 25 channels on Foxtel's service, as compared to a 19-channel package for $A39.95 on rival Optus Vision.
Galaxy direct-to-home subscribers can also now get Australian pay TV's first R-rated "adult entertainment" channel for an additional $A14.95 per month. Foxtel's new programming package sees the fX/fX Movies channel move off the basic tier into a new tier billed as the "entertainment plus" package. fX will be replaced on the basic tier with the new channel from the...
