If history repeats itself, cable networks could be among the best-positioned corporations to capitalize on the World Wide Web. From Home Box Office to Sci-Fi Channel, established and new cable networks alike are leveraging their programming expertise and genre-driven content base to capture eyeballs on the Web.

In an atmosphere strikingly similar to that of cable's infancy, when networks like HBO, ESPN and MTV: Music Television successfully exploited the concept of a niche viewership, cable programmers are showing their entrepreneurial colors on the Web, creating unique online experiences that are closely fled to their on-air branding strategies.
