Zenith Electronics Corp. last week threw its support behind Oracle Corp.'s Network Computer initiative, becoming the second company to say that it will use this technology as a means of bringing Internet access to the television set. Earlier, at the Western Show in December, Thomson Consumer Electronics Inc.
showed a prototype of a version of NC-based TV Internet access that works in conjunction with the OpenTV interactive platform developed by Thomson Sun Interactive, Thomson's joint venture with Sun Microsystems Inc. At last week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Thomson said it would make use of a new generation of chips from U.K.-based Acorn Computer Group to deliver $300 set-top units by this spring.
