Time Warner plans Orlando news channel. (Time Warner Cable; Orlando, Florida)

The Sunshine State is getting yet another local all-news channel, with Time Warner Cable and The Orlando Sentinel teaming up to launch a news network for central Florida this fall.

The 24-hour channel, which hasn't been named yet, will be a 50-50 joint venture between Time Warner and the Tribune Co.-owned newspaper. Initially, it will roll out to 400,000 Time Warner homes and, by the year 2000 - when upgrades are complete - it will be available in 550,000 of the MSO's cable households, said John Rigsby, president of Time Warner Cable's Florida division.
