TOKYO - Major foreign players in the Japanese cable systems business intend to increase their Japanese holdings in the wake of an important deregulatory pronouncement by Japan's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. The MPT issued a missive at a Jan. 27 press conference that addressed plans for the "removal of regulations for foreign ownership in cable TV operators that also offer telecommunications business." Japanese cable players immediately pronounced their intentions to expand their ownership of their cable holdings.
