NEW ORLEANS - Federal Communications Commission chairman Reed Hundt last week accused the TV station industry of delaying the rollout of digital TV and exhorted the cable industry to seize the opportunity if broadcasters stumble. Hundt, addressing cable executives at a National Show breakfast here, scolded the National Association of Broadcasters, NBC and ABC for advocating a six-year, voluntary phase-in of digital in only a few markets.

"It's making me wonder - it's making a lot of us wonder - if the broadcasters really want these [digital] licenses. And a cynic would think that broadcasters just don't want someone else to have them," Hundt said.
