LONDON - A surprise announcement at last week s Cable & Satellite Europe convention here saw Canal Plus join with Norway's Telenor CTV to create a new Nordic TV platform. The move is the latest in a series of deals involving Canal Plus across Europe as it digests its recent acquisition of NetHold B.V., which has been one of the most active players in the Nordic region.
Canal Plus and Telenor are merging two separate direct-to-home platforms to create one called Canal Digital, which they will operate as a 50-50 joint venture. "Our owners have invested 250 million Norwegian krone [$35.5 million] each," said John Jensen, managing director of Canal Digital.
