S-A adds Sonet, new optics to line. (Scientific-Atlanta Inc.)

Scientific-Atlanta Inc. is bolstering its line of optical distribution products, banking on bullish advancements in headend consolidation and two-way signaling. Last week, S-A laid out plans to add a SONET (synchronous optical network) multiplexer designed to carry digital, uncompressed video, as well as modular 1310-nanometer (nm) and 1550-nm lasers, to its optoelectronics product mix.

The suite of products stems partly from S-A's acquisition of ATx Telecom Systems last summer, company officials said. It will be sold under the brand name "Prisma," which spans digital transportation products as well as 1310-nm and 1550-nm optics. S-A will show off the new lines at next week's Super-Comm show in New Orleans, as well as at the concurrent SCTE Cable...
