Microsoft Group Extends TV/PC Push to Europe

WILLIAM MAHONEY MONTREUX, SWITZERLAND - Microsoft Corp. took its convergence game plan across the Atlantic for the first time last week, pushing its proposals to marry the TV and computer to major European digital television groups at the Montreux International Television Symposium (ITVS) here.

The company, along with partners Intel Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp., is pushing for closer digital standards between computer and television compression and transmission in order to help the two merge in the coming decade.
