Although the collapsed direct-broadcast satellite deal between News Corp. and EchoStar Communications Corp. this spring may have dealt a death blow to the so-called Death Star, EchoStar's Dish Network is still alive and kicking, according to a number of industry observers. "I'm feeling pretty positive about EchoStar," said Evie Haskell, managing director of the SkyTrends program, "and that's not something that I would have said a month ago." Karim Zia, equities analyst at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, said EchoStar is on very strong financial footing now that it has completed its recent bond offering.
