At least two major broadband operators are still hanging on the line to provide residential telephone services over their networks. Cox Communications Inc. and Cablevision Systems Corp., in fact, are in the throes of separate marketing campaigns aimed at luring customers away from incumbent local telephone companies and onto their networks.
Executives with both companies said they're still hoping for even a slim slice of the $90 billion that telcos receive to serve as local-loop carriers.
