CNN to critics: we want Brokaw. (Cable News Network; National Broadcasting Co.'s Tom Brokaw)

PASADENA, CALIF. - Under pressure to refresh the channel and to rocket its ratings, Cable News Network is looking to recruit marquee talent, and it is eagerly pursuing NBC anchor Tom Brokaw.
"We are continuing exploratory conversations with Tom Brokaw and others," Tom Johnson, president and CEO of the CNN News Group, said last week. "Tom is at the top of his game ... We could globalize Tom in ways that perhaps he has not been before. He has the type of record and integrity that would fit very well with CNN."
Johnson, during an impromptu press conference following his appearance at the Television Critics Association tour here, said, "Ratings have been very destructive for television news." Nonetheless, CNN needs to be invigorated, Johnson conceded....
