The unsinkable Barry Diller once again has the programming and distribution assets to craft a new network. Might a renewed bid for CBS be the next step? Many on Wall Street and in the cable community think that HSN Inc. chairman Diller will use last week's blockbuster, $4.1 billion "merger" with Seagram Co.'s Universal television assets - including USA Networks - as a springboard to try for CBS again.

A 1994 run at the "Tiffany Network" fell short.
