NEW YORK - The first casualty in the studio/operator battle over control of the new digital pay-per-view world occurred last week, when Warner Bros. pulled three of its films from Viewer's Choice's February lineup over a contract dispute between the studio and the network. Warner Bros. - which, sources close to the matter said, is looking to obtain better splits in the fast-approaching digital environment - is attempting to sell its Contact, Fire Down Below and Conspiracy Theory films on a standalone basis to Viewer's Choice affiliates while it continues to negotiate a new agreement with the network.

Meanwhile, studio executives are watching the proceedings closely to see how they will pursue future digital-carriage deals with the network. According to...
